The Turkish Ministry of Energy has received a feasibility report from the Italian company ENI and its Turkish partner Calik, two candidate firms competing for the construction of the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline, an alternative project put forward by the Turkish government for transporting oil from Russia and the Caspian region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also positively approaches the construction of the pipeline, as another partner in the project.
Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was accompanied by the ENI board during his visit to Turkey Wednesday to have official contacts with Calik officials at the Ministry.
Energy Minister Hilmi Guler speaking about the talks with the Italian officials told that feasibility studies regarding the pipeline project will be discussed with Russian officials after Christmas.
The ministry of energy will also conduct another feasibility study, said Guler. Turkey constitutes an important energy corridor, noted ENI Chief Roberto Poli.
Turkish Minister of Finance Kemal Unakitan received a group presided by Maurizio Sella, the President of the Italian Union of Banks on Wednesday in Ankara. The parties discussed opportunities for investments in the Turkish banking sector.
