HARDMAN Resources, an Australian oil exploration company, has started drilling oil from exploration area 2 in the Kaisotonya area in the southern part of Lake Albert.

Spudding (first dig of the well) was done on December 22 last year and drilled to 107 meters.

According to information from the company, at midnight on December 27, the rig was awaiting the imminent arrival of parts to replace the broken driveshaft prior to drilling ahead. The required parts had been located and were being airlifted to Uganda.

The block was licensed to Hardman and its partner, Tullow oil.

Drilling on Mputa 1 prospect is expected to take between 15 and 20 days to a depth of about 1,100 metres.

The Mputa 1 prospect, named after a local fish specie, will target a structural prospect with potential multiple objectives as defined in the 2005 Onshore Seismic Survey.
