Mohon pencerahan mengenai corrosion coating type ‘heat shrinkable sleeves, canusa supply, onto a FBE powder primer’. Apa keunggulan dari type ini jika diaplikasikan untuk buried pipelines dibanding dengan PU primer atau tipe2 yang lain? Mungkin ada rekan yang mempunyai tabel tipe2 coating dan deskripsinya. Kalau di Indonesia coating type canusa dapat diperoleh dimana ya? Untuk Mas Braskoro kali ini saya perlu banyak dicerahkan lagi nih soal corrosion coating, hehehe…

Seingat saya ada 2 seri hot melt adhesive product Canusa yang sama2 compatible untuk meng-coating (field joint coating) linepipe yang dicoating dengan FBE dan PE. Kedua seri tsb dibedakan based on minimum installation temperature (60 dan 90 deg C). Masing2 mempunyai resistance to circum forces, soil stress, axial pipe movement dan cathodic disbondment yang cukup bagus. Hasil peeling test (based on ASTM dan DIN standard) juga cukup bagus sewaktu di lakukan PQT.

Mas Didik ini ada perbandingan Heat Shrink Sleeves dengan PU spray applied by ‘MACMETINDIA ENGINEERING’ mungkin bisa sebagai reference.
Tapi kayaknya analisanya terlalu membela PU.

COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF FIELD JOINT COATING

Heat Shrink Sleeves VS Plural Component Tar Polyurethane (Spray Applied)

1a) Under stress Sleeves can walk / ripple, if not applied correctly.

1b) Tar Polyurethane coatings have exceptional performance under stress conditions.

2a) Sleeves are literally a cover up. Without Induction pre-heat it is difficult to control quality of the all-important mastic / adhesive melt to achieve acceptable bonding to both pipe steel and factory coating overlap substrates

2b) Quality Control with Tar Polyurethane coatings can be easily monitored. There can be no misunderstanding or ambiguity with the acceptance criteria; it is either good or bad.

3a) Sleeves, despite manufacturers claims, are difficult products to apply well. Even under direct manufacturers supervision it is difficult to achieve consistent quality and ‘repeatability’ from one joint to the next

3b) Tar Polyurethane coatings are advanced materials. It has been proved beyond doubt that the quality achieved in the field is exceptional.

4a) Difficulty in obtaining correct ‘pre-heat’ temperature at the critical factory coating overlap interface, prior to sleeve application (Pre-heat) is needed to ensure full and uniform melt of the mastic adhesive component of the Sleeve, to provide high bond with the factory coating)

4b) Surface pre-heating of either the substrate steel or PE/PP overlap is not generally required with tar Polyurethane coatings

5a) With Sleeves, adhesion between factory applied coating and sleeve adhesive is often inconsistent and poor.

5b) Adhesion characteristics between the PE or PP factory overlap and applied Tar Polyurethane have proved to be consistently superior.

6a) The Heat Shrink Sleeves application process is both time-consuming and labour intensive and does not lend itself to high production.

6b) Consistently high level of productivity has been achieved with tar polyurethane using plural component skid mounted airless hot spray equipment.

7a) Repair level with sleeves are excessive, due to limitations on handling and softening of the installed sleeves, especially where high ambient temperatures prevail.

7b) Historically repair levels with tar Polyurethane are less than 1%

8a) Joint widths are critical, as sleeves are always supplied in a fixed bandwidth. Extra width / or long cut-backs on the PE/PP factory coated pipes are not easily accommodated with Sleeves. In practice, wide-joints are overcome by ‘overlapping’ one sleeve to another – a compromise, time-consuming and costly solution.

8b) By contrast, tar Polyurethane coatings are extremely versatile and can be applied to any field joint width / pipe length / field bend or fitting / or even Horizontal Directional Drill ‘HDD’ pipe, using standard application equipment and the same tar Polyurethane stock materials.

9a) Air entrapment is a real difficult problem with heat Shrink Sleeves, especially around the critical field weld, longitudinal weld or factory coated overlap edges, providing a potential ‘path’ for any water ingress. This situation is even more problematic when spiral-welded pipe is used.
9b) Tar Polyurethane coatings can easily accommodate any changes in pipe profile without entrapping air. The Tar Polyurethane coating will intimately follow the profile of the pipe, weld or factory coating bevel edge, thereby optimising the ‘end-to-end’ performance of the pipeline anti-corrosion coating.

10a) The cost of Heat Shrink Sleeves work out to be substantially higher for large dia pipe joints ( >18’dia) compared to PUR.
