Impressed current cathodic protection is required for all installations on pipeline system. Insulating flange are built into these pipes which prevent low grounding resistance (insulating couplings). With underground installations in the soil, it must be ensured that no water can penetrate in gaps between cathodically protected and unprotected parts since the cathodically unprotected side of the coupling can be destroyed by anodic corrosion. Section of pipe behind the insulator must be particularly well coated.

Mohon pencerahan mengenai pemasangan Cathodic Protection untuk Pipeline dengan methode Impressed Current permasalahannya adalah sebagai berikut :

Dalam mendisain suatu sistem katodik dengan impressed current untuk suatu bentangan pipeline sepanjang 10km dan melalui suatu river crossing, apakah perlu dipasang Isolation Flange diantara river crossing tersebut atau sistim katodiknya dianggap satu rangkaian saja untuk seluruh bentangan pipeline. Apa keuntungan dan kerugiannya jika dipasang Isolation Flanges tersebut terhadap sistem katodiknya.

With underground installations in the soil, it must be ensured that no water can penetrate in gaps between cathodically protected and unprotected parts since the cathodically unprotected side of the coupling can be destroyed by anodic corrosion. Insulating flange at well sites should be installed on pipelines downstream of any possible metallic contact with unprotected structures such as fences, support or pilling. and insulating flange for pipelines must be no be buried in any type of soil, installed in on-grade piping system or submerged in water (continuously/intermittent). In area where there is danger of explosion, insulating joints in above floor installations in buildings must be bridged by explosion-proof spark gaps to avoid open arcing which can lead to detonation of an explosive mixture.

Untuk tambahan informasi kalau pipanya di external coating/insulation/wraping secara tiory tidak akan ada kebocoran dari keseluruhan pipa yg terpasang, karena sebelum pipa di tanam dilakukan ‘holliday test’ test kebocoran lapisan coating, maka isolation flage hanya di pasang pada dua ujung pipa yg naik kepermukaan tanah saja, lain halnya kalau tidak di wraping……….saya nga punya refrence, silahkan yang lain.
