‘Watercut’ is a term used in production testing. It is the ratio of water produced compared to the volume of total liquids produced. A common type of water cut meter measures the water content (cut) of a specific product as it flows through a pipe. The water cut meter measures the differential characteristics of water and other components of the liquid to determine the percentage of water. This can be done by various methods including dielectric measurements (capacitance) microwave, infra red and other inferential techniques. Verification of these can be achieved by the use of automatic online crude oil sampling systems where a mixed sample can be taken to a laboratory to be tested using volumetric/coulometric devices. The Karl Fischer titration test is a common on. Water cut = volume air/ (volume air+volume minyak)

volume total fluida = volume air+volume minyak

Water cut = volume air/volume total fluida

Btw. kalau di Aramco beberapa tahun lalu jarang yg tau water cut… 😎 karena memang ga ada waternya…

Secara kasar, water cut itu bagian dari fluida produksi yang berupa fasa air (dan segala macam yang larut/terbawa di dalamnya).

Kebetulan dulu saya pernah cari2 juga apa itu water cut, ini saya postingkan dari paman google.

Kebetulan juga di project saya menggunakan water cut analyzer untuk crude oil metering system dengan sensornya capacitance type (Manufacturenya FMC Invalco).

Setahu saya Water cut analyzer (water in oil analyzer) itu mengukur kandungan air (water) dalam oil. Sedangkan Oil in Water analyzer sebaliknya mengukur kandungan oil dalam air (water). Mungkinkah water cut dan oil cut itu sama?. Yang jelas water/oil cut itu merupakan rasio kandungan water/oil dalam fluida terhadap total volume fluida tersebut.

Well/ sumur saya untuk memonitor kadar minyaknya pake alat MPFM product terkenal untuk membaca kandungan air dimonitor terbaca oil cut istilah water cut sudah usang atau kuno biasanya pada alat2 lama untuk product2 baru dan mahal menggunakan istilah oil cut ini juga informasi saya dapatkan seminggu kemarin waktu ikut seminar.

Betul, cuma istilah aja.
Tapi mestinya ada alasan psikologis.

Buat teman2, misalnya di Minas atau Kepala Burung, yang harus memompa 1000 bbl cairan untuk mengangkat setiap bbl minyak, kurang prestis dong ngomong ‘produksi sumur saya berkadar minyak 0.01%’ di depan orang awam.

Nah kalau produksi sumur anda masih ribuan barrel minyak per hari, boleh lah ‘pamer’ dengan istilah oil-cut. Kan teman2 yang menangani export-quality crude (mis. di dept pipeline atau floating storage / tanker), juga mengenal baik alat ukur bermerek-dagang mis. NOC (net-oil-counter), dsj.

Jadi, buat penjual MPFM nan canggih, jangan banyak buang waktu dengan field prodn engineer yang water-cut sumur2nya +99%. Bola mata boleh berbinar-binar, tapi dijamin peluang rekomendasinya disetujui sang manager bakal amat sangat seret. Sebab tidak ada alat ukur produksi yang lebih gratis dan efektif daripada ‘gravitasi’ di kolam / tangki penampungan produksi … hehehe.
